An introductory meeting on international education projects was held at the Ningbo Engineering College. The procedures and enrollment policies of some 20 renowned universities in the US, Canada, Australia and the UK were introduced. The Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of Ningbo met yesterday to listen to the report on the implementation of Rules on Parking Lot Construction and Administration in Ningbo from Public Security Bureau, Construction Commission, Planning Bureau and Urban Administration Bureau. The problem of parking in the city was again became a focus. Zheng Ruifa, the vice director of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of Ningbo, attended the meeting.

Rules on Parking Lot Construction and Administration in Ningbo was implemented from January 1, 2002. According to Rules, there will be 259 parking lots in the city and these parking lots can contain 44332 cars. But most of them are still in blueprints due to various reasons, including high cost of construction.

The fact is, on the one hand, drivers can not find parking lots; on the other hand, there are a lot of empty parking space in some parking lots. In the parking lot near Tesco, there are always empty parking space. However, parking space in surrounding area is always crowded.

Government officials urged that Rules on Parking Lot Construction and Administration in Ningbo  be strictly implemented and more parking lots be constructed. At the same time, parking lots used for other purposes should be put into their normal use. The final purpose of all these measures is to make drivers in the city find parking lots to stop their cars.

A delegation from Huangshi, led by Wang Jianming, the secretary of municipal Party committee of Huangshi and Yang Xiaobo, the mayor of Huangshi, arrived in Ningbo yesterday. Baoyinchaolu, secretary of municipal Party committee of Ningbo met the delegation in Xinzhi Hotel.

On behalf of the municipal Party committee of Ningbo, Baoyinchaolu showed great welcome to the delegation and briefly introduced the economic and social development in Ningbo. He said that the economy in Ningbo was foreign-oriented and subject to the impact of financial crisis. He added that Ningbo should expend domestic market and attached great importance to the cooperation with inland cities. Ningbo had organized Ningbo Week in cities like Wuhan and Nanchang. said that Ningbo Week had come to fruition. Baoyinchaolu also said that Huangshi was an important city in inland area. He hoped that Ningbo and Huangshi have their complementary advantages and can joint hands to develop trade, tourism and logistics so that two cities can share prosperity.

Wang Jianmin said that Ningbo had scored remarkable achievement since reform and opening-up of China. Ningbo had much experience in terms of developing private economy, urban construction and administration. Huangshi was a city with fine transportation and rich natural resources. Wang hoped that enterprises in Ningbo could find more opportunities to expand their industries in Hangshi.

Other government officials from Huangshi included Zhou Weifen, Chen Jiahong, Xin Zuguo, Luo Guanghui and Chen Dexin. Chen Chongyue and Fanyi, two officials of Ningbo government attended the meeting.

With the coming of the real summer, the temperature is soaring. Though it's the plum rain season, it is as hot as the dog days.
At one o'clock at noon, it is very hot and sultry. Under the scorching sun, pedestrians walk in a haste under the shelter of umbrellas. In supermarkets and stores, cold drinks, mineral water and sunshades are selling very well. And the air conditioners are selling particularly well these days

"It's so hot that you can hardly fall asleep at night. I feel it is even hotter than last year. So I'll buy an air conditioner", says a resident.  It's late June, the plum rain season. But many people feel it is not like a rainy season at all.

 
Tu Xiaoping, weather forecaster: The basic form of the plum rain season has been established. Upper troughs come and go. It’s unlike the plum rain seasons before. When the warm moist air lingers here, it will rain continuously. 
 
Though it doesn't rain much, there will be quite a lot of thunderstorms in the near future. The meteorological station has released the early warning on thunderstorms for twice. So you are cautioned to protect against thunders. Firstly, when it is thundering, do not stay on high platforms or under trees. Secondly avoid using electric appliances, unplug them and do not touch metallic objects.
